I have tried lots of icings and glazes for sugar cookies.
And they all seem to come up lacking.
Either they don’t harden, making stacking the cookies impossible.
Or they are too thin.
Or they don’t hold vibrant colors.
Or they don’t spread well.
Until I came across this recipe on allrecipes.com.
I made a slight adjustment to it because I thought it needed more flavor.
But it is awesome.
It hardens in six hours or so.
And stays pretty and shiny.
Like a good cookie should.
Make these Lemon Lime sugar cookies(they are awesome, trust me) and this glaze.
You won’t be disappointed.
Sugar Cookie Glaze (adapted from allrecipes.com)
- 1 cup powdered sugar (sifted)
- 1 tbsp light corn syrup
- 1 tbsp water
- 1 tbsp lemon juice (orange juice and lime juice work well too)
- 5-10 drops food coloring
Stir the first four ingredients until smooth. Add food coloring until you reach the desired color.
To decorate, I used the back of a spoon as a “paint brush” to ice the cookies. And to swirl the colors, I used the tines of a fork.
And for the detail work, I cheated and used one of these.

When I do mine for the detail work i thin it slightly and use a squeeze bottle. Do you think that would work for this recipe? i am thinking it may taste better than mine :)
Yes. I totally think it would work. I just am too lazy to do the whole squeeze bottle thing:)
I just want to mention I am just new to biogglng and site-building and definitely loved this web-site. Very likely I’m going to bookmark your blog post . You certainly have great articles. Thanks a bunch for sharing with us your webpage.
Ok, my glaze never comes out right. I’m definitely going to try this! Thanks for the link on my FB page. I’m pinning it!
