The Best Sugar Cookie Icing Ever

I have tried lots of icings and glazes for sugar cookies.

And they all seem to come up lacking.

Either they don’t harden, making stacking the cookies impossible.

Or they are too thin.

Or they don’t hold vibrant colors.

Or they don’t spread well.

Until I came across this recipe on

I made a slight adjustment to it because I thought it needed more flavor.

But it is awesome.

It hardens in six hours or so.

And stays pretty and shiny.

Like a good cookie should.

Make these Lemon Lime sugar cookies(they are awesome, trust me) and this glaze.

You won’t be disappointed.

Sugar Cookie Glaze (adapted from

  • 1 cup powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 1 tbsp light corn syrup
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (orange juice and lime juice work well too)
  • 5-10 drops food coloring

Stir the first four ingredients until smooth. Add food coloring until you reach the desired color.

To decorate, I used the back of a spoon as a “paint brush” to ice the cookies. And to swirl the colors, I used the tines of a fork.

And for the detail work, I cheated and used one of these.

  1. When I do mine for the detail work i thin it slightly and use a squeeze bottle. Do you think that would work for this recipe? i am thinking it may taste better than mine :)
