Monday Randomness: Gourmet leftovers, Base boards and Vintage Handkerchief Curtains

This was yet another weekend of construction mess and home improvement.

I will be glad when most of the inside projects are completed so I can put the house in order and then it will stay that way (in theory).

This was a new baseboard weekend.

We had originally planned to just re-install the baseboard that we pulled out before we laid all the new hardwood floors.

But the old cheap “builder’s value trim” looked so sad against the new floors that we just decided to replace it all.

I thought it would set us back quite a few dollars, but in the end we only spent $175 for some gorgeous tall and substantial base board. Woot!

Anyway, I asked that the baseboard please be put in before the bridal shower I am hosting next weekend.

So the boys got in gear and put in a majority of it on Saturday.

Man, I love progress!

Of course I always keep my worker bees well fed.

I whipped up a couple of yummy things.

After observing me eating my Cajun Chicken Pasta on Saturday evening, my husband asked me, “Why are you not eating the bell peppers.”

I said, “Because they always make my stomach hurt.”

And then he said,”And yet you cook with them anyway?..I know why you do that.”

“Why?” I asked.

“Because you think they are pretty.”

And you know what?

He is right.:)

I also used up some leftover pot roast to make these yummy baked potatoes.

I just made a simple stew base and added in the meat to heat through.

Simple stew base: Beef stock (2-3 cups), tomato paste 2-3 tbsp), black pepper (2 tsp), Worcestershire (1 tbsp), salt and some oregano (1/2 tsp) and herbs de provence (1/2 tsp).

I topped the potatoes and “beef stew” with some sour cream and basil leftover from another meal.

And last but not least, I started working on my handkerchief curtain project.

………………so far it’s been a crash and burn.

But my husband suggested a new layout idea which just may work… I just need to find time to figure it out.
