House Hunting Wishes
- Within 10 minutes of family
- Master on main floor
- At least 3 bedrooms, plus a bonus room
- Over-sized lot
- Minimal cosmetic changes, unless a contractor is in the budget to do the work
- Reduce the amount we currently pay in mortgage, insurance, and taxes
First off, the housing market is a little crazy where we live. Our current house had an offer within hours of listing, and then we received two more offers the same day. We signed a contract for more than our asking price. So house hunting in that same market is a little daunting.
Here are a few homes that we looked at.
We really like this house and acreage. The potential is there. The price of this home with all the structural and cosmetic changes we want came in at about 15k -25k over budget. And it is literally 3 minutes from some of my siblings. This house is all about the location, location, location.
This house is a foreclosure. It is in a neighborhood with awesome amenities; it even has sidewalks! It does need some minor updates, but the huge lot and fenced-in yard make-up for them. This house is priced at 20k below budget which is always a good thing. And the HOA fee is $360 yr.
This house is exactly where we hoped to live, at the base of Paris Mountain. Super easy commute to work, and includes 4 acres of land. We think we can actually subdivide the lot, sell two acres and then use the cash to pay for the updates to the house…in theory. The nice thing about this house is that even though we would like to do updates on the kitchen and bathrooms it is totally move-in ready once we do some painting. It is priced at budget, but will eventually need about 50k worth of cosmetic work.
Hi Rene, the photo of the brick ranch – I liked the charm and the land it has. You could paint the outside brick and that bathroom sink is a keeper. It looks like it was well cared for, clean and move in ready. Take your time fixing it up and make it your home. What I tell my clients to do is go to all the $500 + open homes you can get into and get ideas on how to upgrade your home to look like theirs. Good Luck!
Hi Christine, I actually help homeowners with remodel selections as my day job along with decor consultations. I look forward to taking on this challenge for myself! :) Thanks for reading.
