Retail Therapy: My Favorite New Leggings and a Giveaway

First of all,

leggings

I wear them with long cardigans, tunics or dresses

And I always struggle with finding leggings that are completely opaque.

Non-baggy knees and a comfortable waistband are important too.

But recently I stumbled upon these and they are awesome.

Hue, Ultra Leggings- Wide Waistband, $36

Big wide waistband for they don’t fall down or roll down.

Non-baggy knees

And not see through at ALL

So whether you just wear leggings around the house or like to dress them up for a day on the town, you need these non-pants of comfort!

And because I stumbled upon these leggings from heaven I am giving away one pair this weekend.

You can enter three ways.

#1 Just comment below with your plans for the weekend.

#2. Share the giveaway on facebook or twitter and then leave a comment below that you did.

#3. Like the blog facebook page, here.

Winner announced on Monday morning.

Winner can choose a size and color of their choice.

***I was not compensated for this giveaway. I just wanted to share the legging love.***

A Holiday Giveaway: The Pioneer Woman’s Holiday Cookbook (Winners Announced)

******Winners Announced******

The randomly selected winners are Joyce Mundy and Michele. Ladies, I will send you an email shortly requesting your addresses.

Thanks, random.org.

******************************************************************************

My husband surprised me last weekend with the new Pioneer Woman’s holiday cookbook.

(I am on to his ways of these “gift” cookbooks; I just think he wants me to cook for him:)

I have already read it cover to cover, and I know it’s her best book yet.

It’s a year of recipes for every holiday with time schedules to help you with planning each meal. In my opinion is takes all the stress out of hosting a meal for a crowd.

I roasted a turkey breast last week and whipped up a version of her leftover Thanksgiving turkey panini. It was delish!

Leftover Turkey Panini

And I am excited to try the watermelon pico de gallo from the Cinco De Mayo recipes.

And while some of the recipes are not “new,” I love how the book is formatted and organized. I will be using it A LOT. I can tell already.

Okay, all you have to do is tell me your favorite holiday in the comment section below and you are entered to win one of the books.

If you find it in the goodness of your heart to share the giveaway on Facebook that would be lovely too but not required.

One entry per day. The winner will be picked Monday morning, Nov 11 (aka my sister Annie’s birthday, and of course Veteran’s Day).

Two winners will be picked by random.org.

Good luck!

PS. I am not compensated for these giveaways. I just like spreading the love of cooking.

PSS. I will even ship this internationally for my non-US readers (spammers I am not taking about you) :).

Summer Green Beans and the Cook Book Winner Annouced

Honey Lemon Green Beans and Turkey Pot Roast

I mentioned on Wednesday that I already prepared a few recipes from my new cookbook.

Well here is my first review.

I prepared Turkey Pot Roast (minus the carrots and potatoes) from the cookbook Not Your Mother’s Slow Cooker Cookbook that I am giving away today.

51VVU0xWOfL

Overall it was a great recipe. Next time I will add more salt and definitely serve it with cranberry sauce like she suggests.

PS. The leftovers made an awesome sandwich.

To serve with the turkey I whipped up these simple green beans using 5 ingredients.

Honey,

Lemon Juice,

Oil,

Salt and Pepper.

ingredients

Green Beans

First I blanched the green beans for 3-4 minutes.

And then threw them in cold water to stop the cooking; once cool  I dried the beans with paper towel.

Next I grabbed a non-stick skillet, and added a tablespoon of honey, lemon juice and oil,  half a teaspoon of black pepper, and a good dash of salt.

Then I added the beans to the skillet and “stir fried” them over medium high heat for about 5-7 minutes.

Honey

While those finish cooking I should mention that the honey I used is actually made by my parents’ bees.

And my mom and dad process and bottle the honey themselves.

It’s a huge undertaking…so I am told.

I think my dad’s midlife crisis involves bees.

At least, that’s what my mom says.

They sell it so if you are interested in local SC honey let me know.

Moving on.

Tada, the result was crispy green beans with a kick.

Combined with the turkey, fresh peaches, and roasted red potatoes it made a great summer meal.

Lemon Honey Green Beans

Serves 3-4

  • 1/2 lb fresh green beans, ends removed
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • dash of salt

Directions

Fill a small sauce pan about half full of water. Bring to boil. Add trimmed green beans. Boil for 3-4 minutes. Drain beans immediately and place them in a bowl of ice water.

Once the beans are cool, drain well (or pat dry with papertowel). Set aside.

In a non-stick skillet, add the rest of the ingredients. Stir to combine over low heat.

Turn the cooktop up to medium high and add the beans to the skillet. Stir fry for 5-7 minutes.

Serve immediately.

Enjoy.

Variation: If you prefer to use frozen green beans, prepare them according to the directions but cut the cooking time in half. Pat dry. And then follow the rest of the instructions above.

Honey Lemon Green Beans and Turkey Pot Roast

Okay, on to the randomly selected winner of the cookbook.

And I am going to throw in some slow cooker liners too.

The winner is: Sheila! Email me at thedomesticlady@yahoo.com with your address and choice of cookbook.

Thanks random.org.

And thanks everyone for participating.

Big (x’s 3) Giveaway: Books and Candles Galore

The three randomly selected winners are as follows:

Shelly at Ft Worth- Young House Love book

Heidi- Knack Studios Furniture Makeovers book

Kayla- Tyler Candle

Ladies, I will be emailing you for your addresses.

Thanks random.org for your help with this drawing.

____________________________________________________________________

Okay, this weekend I am giving away three of my favorites things (think Oprah but without the millions).

(Young House Love)John and Sherry’s new book.

Their book is full of great ideas for home projects.

I already completed the updated bookcase project. Genius!

Why I like John and Sherry:

They take older homes and make them look great without a huge budget.

Their DIY projects have polish. They don’t look like craft projects (which is a pet peeve of mine when it comes to DIY blogs)

They have a Chihuahua named Burger. I think that my Poppi and Burger would be friends.

I love the way they layer textures, colors and pattern with furniture and products that can be found anywhere, ie not a high dollar show room.

They work together as a couple which is characteristic of my husband and I’s relationship. We like working together and most people think we are weird :) John and Sherry prove that we aren’t. :)

And reading their blog makes me smile on a regular basis.

Barb Blair(Knack Studios) new book

(release date on Amazon April 9th).

Why I like Knack Studios:

I have written about Knack Studios many times.

I love Barb’s work ethic, positive attitude and her aesthetic.

I love that she reinvented her career.

I love that she sees beauty in “rough around the edges” things which, if you think about it, is how we really should view the world.

Try to see beauty in all broken things, including people.

I have stalked her blog for years and always come away with inspiration.

And an 11 oz candle from the Tyler Candle Company.

Why I love Tyler Candles:

For the price, in my opinion they are the best candles on the market.

Their fragrances cannot be beat. I even use their air fresheners in my car.

And don’t get me started on the laundry detergent.

Tyler, High Maintenance and Beach Blonde are a few of my favorites.

Seriously, if you have never tried their products you are missing out.

All you have to do is share the giveaway on Facebook and comment below↓↓↓↓ that you did.

Three winners will be picked by random.org on Sunday March 24th @ 5pm.

Your email address is always kept private. No spam. I promise.  Contest complete.

Dermabration Winner Announced!

Courtney P., you are the winner of the Dermabration giveaway!

Email me at renep22@yahoo.com with your mailing address.

Thanks everyone for participating.

I have been busy making Christmas preparations, shopping and planning a little housewarming party.

My best shopping deal this weekend was not at a department store actually…..but at Dollar Tree.

My local craft store had some jingle bells I needed for $7.99 a package.

I ran into Dollar Tree later and found the same bells for $1 a package(duh, right…”Dollar” Tree).

Regardless I was excited for that savings!

I have some Christmas crafting and recipes ideas for next week… but for now I am taking a blogging break to celebrate my birthday tomorrow.

Hope you had a happy and thankful Thanksgiving.

A Review and a Giveaway: Sonic Dermabrasion Facial Brush

I picked up a Pretika Sonic Dermabrasion Facial Brush about a year ago at TJMaxx.

It was not very expensive compared to the high dollar ones($30 vs $120) I have seen in the past so I thought I would give it a try.

In the year I have owned it I have only had to charge it once.

I use it 2 to 3 times a week in the shower or at the sink with my everyday facial cleanser.

I love it.

I would recommend starting out at the low-speed as the brush might feel harsh at first, but trust me.

My face glows after using it.

You will be addicted, too.

The brush is light brown by the time I am done using it even on the days I don’t wear make up.

And I saw a significant difference in the amount of blackheads (gross I know).

It cleans out the dirt DEEP DOWN.

If you are looking for a gift for someone who has everything, this brush may be the ticket.

Try it out.

It’s available at drugstore.com and amazon.com.

And because I am thankful for all my blog’s readers, I am giving away a Pretika Sonic Dermabrasion Facial Brush this week.

Enter two ways:

#1 Simply leave a comment below with your favorite skin care product. (don’t worry your email address will not be used for anything)

#2 Share the giveaway on facebook or twitter. And then leave a comment below that you did.

Good luck and happy Thanksgiving.

Winner will be annouced on Friday evening.
